Katie Gilmartin is a San Francisco-based printmaker. For over a decade she taught cultural studies with an emphasis on gender and sexuality at UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley, and the New College. During this time, she explored printmaking, spending time in the print studio at SOMArts, the South of Market Cultural Center, interning with Debora Iyall. Eventually she left academia and in 2000 assumed care of SOMArts' Chrysalis Print Studio, which was awarded grants from the San Francisco Arts Commission and the Queer Cultural Center to provide printmaking classes to young Queer artists. Gilmartin is also co-founder and member of City Art Cooperative Gallery and exhibits her work at City Art and galleries throughout the San Francisco Bay area.
